Special Session Options
Loyola offers three special session learning opportunities.
J-Term
J-term is a two-week, immersive learning opportunity available to students in January before the start of the spring semester. Select J-term courses covering topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion are offered for free to undergraduate students. Courses are available on a first come, first served basis.
May Term
Catch up on credits before you start your summer! Two-week May Term courses are accelerated and flexible so you can gain course credit in a short time frame. Immerse yourself in one topic with hands-on learning and unique topics. Choose from relevant courses that connect to current events and can help you achieve your academic goals.
Summer Session
Get ahead in your program or check off a core requirement before you return in the fall. Summer courses are a flexible and cost-effective option to help you stay on track. Taking just one summer course between each year of college could allow students to graduate an entire semester early—saving on tuition costs.
Get Ahead
Special sessions can help save you money in the long run. Taking 9 credit hours during special sessions could help you reduce your time at Loyola by an entire semester.
Catch Up
If you had to withdraw from a course during the fall or spring semester, or if you only took 15 or fewer credits in a previous semester, you can make up for that time by taking a special session course.
Study Abroad
Special session study abroad programs are more affordable and require less of a time commitment when compared to semester and year-long study abroad programs.
