A bachelor of liberal studies in social science major permits students to select a concentration in one of the following social science disciplines: sociology, psychology, history, or political science. Students move from introductory courses covering historical development and contemporary trends to more advanced studies with a research focus.

Combining both theoretical and applied courses, students may specialize in a given area of expertise. Sociology and psychology students, for example, may take a variety of courses specializing in criminology and deviant behavior, early child and adolescent development, and the sociology and psychology of the family. Students concentrating in political science will focus on the practical aspects of public policy.

Students majoring in social science use their degrees in a variety of ways: to broaden a more specialized two-year degree, for career enhancement, for personal enrichment, or as a foundation for graduate or professional education.
